According to Legends

According to legends, the Full Moon Party began in the mid-1980s. According to reports, this party was thrown at Paradise Bungalows on the spur of the moment to delight 20-30 travellers. Over time, word got out, and this party grew into a monthly event that pre Covid attracted between 8,000 and 30,000 people. At time of writing this post the party is currently drawing in around 5,000 party goers. Bars will play trance, R&B, house, dance, and reggae music all day and into the night on the full moon’s evening. This renowned party is now a must-see for travellers and a must-do for anybody traveling through Southeast Asia.

Make the Most of the Full Moon Party

Dress up for the occasion: At Full Moon, don’t wear your favorite shirt. Rather, purchase or wear clothing that you are willing to stain. Certain fabrics are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove body paint off.

Don’t try to drive: Transport a taxi to the Full Moon Party. It is not just dangerous to drink and drive, but the road to Haad Rin is steep, sandy, and difficult to navigate if you have never been here before.

Stick together: The Full Moon Party attracts a large crowd, and it can be difficult to find someone. Party as a group, wait for each other, and perhaps set aside a meeting spot in case someone gets separated.

Don’t get too carried away: This is going to be a long session. Take it slowly. Don’t guzzle down your buckets. Do you know what’s in those buckets, by the way? M150 (a Thai variant of Red Bull with a high ephedrine content), a can of soda, and a 300 ml bottle of whiskey are included. Drink to have a good time rather than to pass out.

Avoid drugs at all costs: There are numerous reasons to refuse drugs, as we are sure you are aware. One word of caution: this is not your home country; things are different here, and narcotics are banned. It’s best to be cautious.

Don’t bring anything valuable: Bring only the bare essentials. Partygoers have often reported losing their phones, ID documents, cameras, wallets/purses, shoes, and the list goes on. Bring only what you’re willing to part with.

Don’t bring your entire wallet: Money is the most commonly lost or stolen thing. Bring only a portion of your cash to the celebration. Bring only what you intend to spend plus a little extra. Keep it near at hand.
